the genre of writing is different enough that she didn’t want her Harry Potter fans to expect that sort of book.. once she gained an audience for this series it didn’t make sense to her to revert to her better-known name

Thanks, stephjoe, I’ll give it a try, but she really needs an editor. 650 pages, 22 1/2 hours for a mystery? She speaks about how busy she was with other projects when writing this. Too busy to cut her excessive verbiage, I guess.

the tv series of cormaron strike are very entertaining, but christ her books are hard work. why write ten words when a hundred will do! she may be a wizard when it comes to harry potter but not everything she does is magic. i would love to read/listen to these books & enjoy them but it’s just too much of a slog.

I disagree - the books are very well written and definitely not overly long. I have the exact opposite view of the TV series for the first 3 books - they left so much out and were very disappointing as a result. My wife hadn’t read the books and thought the TV versions were rubbish.
I have only read the first three so far and was delighted when I found that she continued the series as the 3rd book did feel like it was an end. I am looking forward to books 4 & 5
